I first met Randall "Tex" Cobb while attending Temple University in the 90's. When I was a kid, I thought he was cool because he always played thuggish monster types in movies. As I got older, I started to respect him from an article I read by Philly writer
Larry Platt entitled "No Requiem Necessary". The article was reprinted in one of Larry's books entitled
"New Jack Jocks", and it gives a great look inside Tex's life and mindset and showed just how tough a guy he was. He has an amazing heart, and is a man of high conscience. He also lives by an almost samurai code, unwilling to cheapen his craft or career. Tex is a
true redemption story, and I am proud to call him a hero and friend. Whenever life is kicking my ass, I watch the fight between
Tex Cobb and Larry Holmes. He lost 15 out of 15 rounds that night, yet he wouldn't drop. He never gave up. Tex once said something along the lines of, "Anyone can be a hero when going uphill. But it's what you do when you throw everything you've got and nothing is working, that's the true measure of a man." I believe that to be true.

Yep, he's the real deal. A real man, not one of these self promoting, plastic sissy boys that are foisted on us as "heroes." I met him at Juke Box Johnny's and he was right down to earth. ii didn't want to bother him because he was covered up with people but ats they cleared out he spoke to me. Just small talk and BS but he engaged me first. i thought that was pretty cool because if I were him that night, I wouldn't want to look for people to talk to, I would be trying to get away from em.
